Bloom Garden photo

This is the Honest2Goodness allotment garden which you can see for real by visiting the Bloom Festival this week-end. It just shows what you can achieve with a small space - some great ideas to recreate in your own garden or by taking out an allotment!

Bloom Honest2Goodness Garden design

This is the design concept for our garden at the Bloom Festival next week. I think it'll be great! It has been designed by Paul and Orla Woods who run Kilmurry Nursury in Wexford.

The Honest 2 Goodness Vegetable Garden is focused mainly on the growing of vegetables but it is also about the social and relaxation aspect. In this climate when so many decisions are outside our control, our own health and wellbeing is something we can focus on for ourselves. The garden is based on a single allotment where your neighbours are just over the fence for advice and also for a chat. The hard work that comes with growing your own is offset with a wonderful sense of achievement that space or experience is not a barrier to anyone and that yes you can.!

Allotments update

We have been so busy with getting our food market in Glasnevin organised, that we have decided to postpone implementing our allotment plans until 2010. In the meantime, we will be at the Bloom Festival in the Phoenix Park this May to talk to people about our concept for the allotments, the general layout and to get expressions of interest from people who want to hear more, as we develop our plans during the latter half of this year. We will post the plans onto the blog in due course, as well as photos of the garden that we are exhibiting at Bloom.

Are you interested in allotments in Dublin/Meath?

This is our land, photographed during recent snow, and we want to create allotments on it during 2009. The land is on the Dublin/Meath border (near the town of Dunboyne) and has been farmed for the last number of years, with added drainage being undertaken to further improve the land quality. We are interested in hearing from you if you would like to participate in this project with us. We believe that this is a fantastic opportunity to get back in touch with the land, grow your own vegetables and fruit and get great exercise in the open air. Be part of the growing community of allotment holders, and work with us to create a vibrant local community onsite. As we are also planning to open a farmers market in Dublin, there is also the opportunity to sell off any surplus product at our market. Please contact us at info@thetastingroom.ie if you would like to hear more, or watch this space for regular updates.
